Description
ARCHAIC PERIOD CHESS SET - Solid Brass with blue/brown chessmen and bronze chessboard 44 x 44cm (Large)
Archaic Greece was the period in Greek History lasting from the 8th century BC to the second Persian invasion of Greece in 480 BC. The archaic period saw developments in Greek politics, economics, international relations, warfare and culture. It was in the archaic period that the Greek alphabet developed, the earliest surviving Greek literature was composed, monumental sculpture and red-figure pottery began in Greece. Artists rapidly assimilated foreign styles and motifs into new portrayals of their own myths and customs, thereby forging the foundations of Archaic and Classical Greek Art.
