The figures of the chessmen depict famous statues of Greek antiquity. The Pawn figure is inspired by the Greek Sphinx of the Naxians from the Temple of Apollo (Delphi 560b.C.). Apollo (King) was found in temple of Zeus in Olympia (460b.C.). The Queen is a replica of the world known statue of Aphrodite of Melos (200 b.C.) and Kouros (Bishop) was a classical archaic figure of a young man (525 b.C). The Castle is inspired by the Doric pillars of Parthenon, and the Knight is created after a geometrical bronze horse of 750 b.C.
